Readers love a good twist.
There’s another golden opportunity for a twist right at the end of the first pinch point.
It’s called the midpoint.
Your story’s midpoint is a great place for a twist, but it also has some important work to do: it’s the place in the story where your protagonist shifts from defense to offense.
To do this, he needs some sort of key—a secret revealed, or a decision forced—that will give him an important piece of the puzzle.
