✂️Patterns Were Made to Be Changed ➺ Learn HOW!
Have you ever felt like you're not supposed to, or even allowed to, change a sewing pattern?
Like, the instructions are there for a reason, and you’re just meant to follow them… no deviation from the plan?
I get it. I mean, that’s how most of us start our sewing adventures.
But here’s what I want you to know:
Sewing patterns aren’t rules!
They’re just one version of how that design could be made.
They were never meant to be followed exactly.
In fact, sewing patterns were designed to be changed and altered to suit YOU!
When you start changing details (like decorative trims, zip types, facing types, hem lengths, dart placements, fit), tweaking finishes (like hem type and finish, seam finish, understitching not topstitching), adding a pocket here or a different sleeve there...
You’re not breaking the pattern.
You’re building something that actually feels like you.
The pattern police are not coming to get you for changing something on the pattern!
And here’s the beauty of it all.... Once you’ve done the hard work to get a pattern to fit just right, you use it again! Just change a few little things, and BANG!
You have a brand new design!
You shouldn't start from scratch every time, you don’t have to!.
Your time is too precious for that!
That’s what sewing for yourself is really all about; it's not just about finishing a garment as instructed by the pattern, it's about making it yours!
This is what I wanted to do when I started sewing, and maybe you do too!
So, if you feel you needed permission to go 'off-pattern'... consider it granted 😁
