Giving the world the ability to attack global pollution with data-driven decisions, Project Sonora combines the best of IoT with trending technologies like Blockchain and Cryptocurrencies. By crowdsourcing the data gathering process, we can rest assured that the data collected will be available 24/7, will be completely transparent, and will have the ability to reach every nation in the world without having the need of having major resources or government support. The project revolves around the Sonar, which is our way of incentivizing people to start providing air quality data. This Sonar is a compact, router-sized mini meteorological station with sensors for air quality aspects like O3, NO2, CO2, temperature, and humidity that is given rewards in cryptocurrency every time it transmits the data and pings other Sonars to prove there is coverage around the area. The raw data is later sent to the Project Air platform where it is processed and sent to the AWS database. This database records all the historical data, which can be later purchased by enterprises, universities, ONGs, or governments. Finally, a receipt of the record is sent to the Ethereum Blockchain, which pays the Sonar a reward fee for performing its duties. The scope of the solution can be escalated quickly due to the crowdsourcing fact, and the proposal can be extended as long as the production capacities can support it. If the project grows too quickly, production licenses can be sold so production can be outsourced and grow accordingly.
