Pauletta didn't lose her hearing overnight; it was a long series of diminished hearing. It was hard for Chuck to watch his spouse lose her hearing, knowing how important it was for her career and social life.
Pauletta would regularly go through different hearing aids. One would help for a while, and then eventually, she would have to upgrade or look for something different to help her hearing loss.
Pauletta knew it was time for a change when she had to retire early from her career that she loved so much. She felt embarrassed and didn't tell anyone that her progressive hearing loss was the reason she retired. Pauletta and Chuck stopped going to church because she couldn't hear anything that was going on. All of these important pillars of Pauletta’s life started to crumble as her hearing loss progressed.
