Mandelbrot Gold - 3D Fractal Zoom

Imagine if the Mandelbrot Set was made of pure gold! This is my first attempt at a ray-traced 3D rendering of the Mandelbrot Set. Of course, the Mandelbrot is still 2D by its very nature, but it is interesting to attempt to project it into the third dimension. I've spent a while refining the process, and I'm not quite there yet, but I thought it was time to upload the progress. Please hit subscribe! Please leave some feedback in the comments.

Projecting the Mandelbrot Set into a 3D video is a little more difficult than it might first appear. The mathematically output is naturally quite jagged, and in parts changes quickly frame-by-frame, so film can be a little hard to watch. Additionally, to zoom, we need to account for the fact the the underlying geometry is constantly evolving, as we need to add more and more detail to the image as we zoom in. The Mandelbrot is too big to save as one 3D object even for a small zoom like this. This changing geometry can also create flickering as it interacts with the mesh. If you look closely at the spiral section, you will notice that the geometry is slowly melting away to reveal more detail, this method is a bit different, but I think it works well. (That's not what is happening on the main 'inside' raised Mandelbrot, you will notice it flickers more here, but I'll try and do it for the next video). Anyways, this is something new and experimental for me, I think it has promise, and I hope to improve this soon. There are a few artefacts and other issues that I would like to refine for the next zoom.

This video is only rendered at 1080p. I might move back to 4k once I optimise the process, but it quite rendering intensive. About 2100 frames of this video were rendered by 50 machines on Google's render farm (thanks to some free credit), the remaining 1300 were rendered by me at home. Plus there were many more frames rendered in the development of this concept. Those people who support me on Patreon, make experiments like this possible. Thank-You.
