2021 Virtual Conference | Budgets: A Tool for Revolution
As we collectively re-emerge from the pandemic with renewed commitments to anti-racism, justice, equity, and accessibility for all, we must ensure our budgets reflect this vision for a better American Theatre. In this session, we will share approaches for using budgets as a tool for this revolutionary change and open the space for revolutionary questions like: How are pay levels determined? Are we right-sized as an organization? Do artist fees reflect the labor and time we expect of them? This is an open forum where we encourage open conversation and peer-to-peer feedback on ways our budgets can reflect our values and remain adaptable to the needs of our communities. This conversation will focus on organizational budgeting but we strongly encourage individual artists and practioners to attend in order to disrupt traditional power dynamics between institutions and those who work outside of them.
