ChatGPT, OpenAI, and AI in general, has been all the talk for the past month or so, and there’s been a lot of doom and gloom around the subject too. However, today I want to focus on how AI helps developers, rather than replaces them. That’s right, it might be a controversial take, but I think artificial intelligence and web developers can work together. AI’s impact on developers isn’t as gruesome and one-sides as some may make it out to be. In fact, I think the working relationship between AI and coding jobs will only help developers, coders, and creatives do their job even better.
From the Creative X Crew’s recent office hours, we had a member talk about this specific topic a bit more and the ethics around artificial intelligence. With more and more technology coming out every year, there’s more documentation being created, and more for developers to stay on top of and learn. The same can be said about any industry really. With AI, and a bot like ChatGPT, we’re able to search through thousands of online resources quickly and get the answers we need in a shorter time frame than if we’d do all the research on our own. Even in the web design world, artificial intelligence in web design can help designers focus on more important tasks on hand rather than iterating 50 times on a logo.
Will AI replace developers? I don’t think so. The future of AI in programming, I think will only help. We need to start looking at this issue through a difference lens. How can AI help us do our jobs better? How can AI help us focus on some of the more important, and deeper-rooted problems at hand that require a human touch? When new things come around, new jobs get created too. It’s not all doom and gloom, and I think AI in the tech space can be a really positive thing.
