An image can be defined as two dimensional signal that varies over the spatial coordinates x and y, and can be written mathematically as f(x,y).
In general the image f(x,y) is divided into rows and columns. At the intersection of rows and columns, pixels are present. The word pixels is an abbreviation of picture element.

So if you want to learn how an image is represented in computer, watch this video which is on the topic Representation of digital image.
