Hey there. I like Half-Life games, I like Half-Life mods and I also, like suffering, for some unknown reason. So today I’m going to be playing Black Mesa but with a special twist. I’m gonna try to get The Rarest Specimen achievement, where you take this purple hat here, alllllll the way to the end of the game. Now sure, it sounds easy.. Uh- no, n-no, no it isn’t. This achievement is in fact the polar opposite of easy where you think you'd just be able to put the head squarely on your head, but no no no. Instead, the only option of moving with the hat is clicking E on it and carrying it like this. When picking up the hat, your weapon unequips. So the only way to fight back against the horrors of the borderworld is to put the hat down and you need to repeat this thousands of times in order to actually stand a chance in this game. Since I already had this achievement, as I did it off-camera months ago, I thought this would be relatively easy, but I was not ready for the level of pain I was about to face. So buckle your seatbelts, because this is gonna be a goddamn bumpy ride. Wait. I think I’m forgetting something. Ohhhh yeah. Hey can you click this button down here thanks yeah go ahead can you click the red button that’d be awesome thanks man click the button thank you man appreciate it click the big red funny button click the button thank you. So, before I swiftly move us into the actual gameplay, let me first lay down some ground rules. The first rule is obvious, no cheating. If there is a single point in this playthrough where I lose the hat permanently because I forgot to bring it with me to another area, I must reload an autosave. No spawning it back in, no. That’s cringe. The second rule is I am allowed to just run through areas like a madman. The most important thing in this playthrough is not me, but the hat. And I must get the hat to the end of the game no matter what, so, if that means I have to kill several innocents in order to transport the hat quicker, then I will do it without hesitation. With that out of the way, it’s time to begin.The first chapter we begin is irrelevant, because the hat isn’t actually here, but you can see the area where it will be. So we grab our HEV suit, b-hop down the corridors, freeze in place due to the immense pressure of my colleagues wanting me to press a button, and accidentally cause a f%cky wucky. A little oopsy poopsies, if you will. Now this is the chapter that matters, as we can finally go back to the area and officially grab the hat. (show clip of us grabbing the hat) For us Mitten Squad fans out there, this is where the real game begins. Fortunately for me, a lot of this games encounters can be outright skipped with enough brute force. However there are some instances where brute force is not an option and you must lay down the hat in order to stand your ground. The problem with this is what you might think, you’re laying the hat down. Who knows if the hat is going to be shot, or blown up, or roll away, or some other factor that makes obtaining the hat again possible. So for any insane people watching here’s a great tip for this challenge, autosave every time you put the hat down. All it costs is clicking F6 and then you’re safe. Speaking of the hat becoming unobtainable, is this moment.
