Transcription: Hello, I'm Thom Fox and welcome the Personal Finance 120, information for managing your financial life in less than two minutes. There's a saying that goes, if you don't mind then it doesn't matter. We all stress out about debt, making ends meet and planning for the future. However, we don't have to if we simply take a few minutes to reflect. As strange as it may sound, meditation can fundamentally change your financial habits. One of the biggest things we all struggle with is impulse purchases. In introducing mindfulness-based meditation to your daily routine will help you make choices based on reason other than impulse. Mindfulness is the practice of being fully aware of the present moment, essentially sitting still with your thoughts and observing your emotions without engaging. What mindfulness does is create more space and time around your decisions you need to make. It allows you to be more analytical about the thoughts that enter your mind, so you can consciously decide whether or not an item is worth buying. Cultivating mindfulness takes time, in the beginning may have a hard time focusing on the present particularly when you're trying to sit still. Give yourself a few days and you'll find out how to ease into a mindfulness mindset quite seamlessly. Now you don't have to meditate for an hour a day, you may only need to take 10 or 15 minutes to reflect. We can all find 10 minutes can't we. Practicing meditation can make you more connect it to yourself and we're connected to your values. A few minutes of deliberate emotionless reflection can help you spend your money on items and causes that you care about. Try it for a week, see what happens, you never know you just might be able to reduce your financial stress. Until next time, Thom Fox from Cambridge Credit Counseling.
