SQL Server Series: Improving Data Quality with DQS

Any data warehouse or master data system has an undeniable need to have clean data for reporting purposes. Microsoft understands this and felt that SQL Server needed it own tool to handle just this. Welcome Data Quality Services (DQS) to the SQL Server 2012 release. We will cover some of the ways this new tool will help you clean your corporate data. At the root of DQS is the knowledge base , which is a repository of either out-of-the-box knowledge, knowledge generated by DQS or customer created knowledge. When you combine these three knowledge sources you end up with the ability to cleanse incorrect data with proposed changes, merge duplicates and verify key fields with cloud based lookups. Overall it really helps you build a foundation of data governance and allows data stewards to manage their incoming data elements before that bad record causes any troubles for your organization.
