Vanilla
Though this got me thinking, why is it called vanilla when it clearly has a defined, non-default flavour? Who thought that vanilla should be the blank slate for everything else? For example what if i think chocolate is the most default flavour, what power does someone have to take it from me. I do understand however that over the years it become a term of its own but why does it have to share a word with a beanstalk? Is this how language evolves? By using comparisons which brings someone vague similarity to another thing? I am puzzled.
