A renowned Scottish writer, poet, historian, and lawyer of Scottish descent. He is considered the founder of the historical novel genre.
Scott's work is conventionally divided into two groups:
novels dedicated to Scotland's recent past;
works dedicated to England's past, as well as continental countries in the Middle Ages.
