In this vid I'll go through a somewhat complex process used to get a ton of variation and modulation options in a synth bass.
The basic premise is: use a synth to create a harmonically rich, complex waveform, then add movement to it by automating things like filters, EQ peaks and notches, distortion, etc. Freeze and flatten that midi clip (aka bounce to audio) so that you now have a sample with all that movement/modulation built in. Throw that in a sampler, and program a few macros that let you easily maneuver through the sample with each midi note, and give you endless modulation options with a few clicks.
In order to keep this video around an hour, I did not spend as long as I normally would creating the sample itself. The examples I show in the beginning might sound a bit better / cleaner than what I make in this vid because I spent more time cleaning them up with EQ automations. The point of this video (and all these videos) is to inspire you to take the process and make it your own! Hopefully it allows you to see some new creative avenues you can take to get sounds you weren't able to previously :)
