How To Change The Cover Image In Google Plus Local Page
They don't exactly make it easy to change your cover image after you've initially chosen it, but there are times when you need to update your Google+ Local page cover image.
This is just a quick tutorial, mainly for our own internal use, but we figured if it helps us, why not let it be public so others can hopefully save some steps.
Google+ is an emerging platform, even though it’s been around for quite some time. It should be an important part in your SEO efforts. Google is pretty much begging you to work with it. It feels to us like the scene from Jerry Maguire “help me help you”. Google wants to reward well run, interesting websites and Google Plus, Google Maps, Google My Business, Google Local or whatever it’s called today is one way they do that.
Sometimes it might not feel like the largest search engine in the world wants to help your business, even though you think you’re pretty interesting. Take a second to consider exactly how interesting your website is. Is it well designed and easy for people to find what they want? Is it integrated with social media platforms like Google+, Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest? What about the content? Would you want to read it? If you’re doing all that right and you have people telling you how much they enjoy what you put out, have a look at how often you do it. Putting up a blog post every few months isn’t exactly going to get people talking about you. But what if you are doing everything you can to generate interest, but Google just doesn’t seem to recognize it? Well it could well be that you’re counteracting all your good efforts by things like spamming directories or blog comments. Don’t do that.
One other thing we’ve seen a massive spike in recently is what’s colloquially known as “Negative SEO”. Everyone knows if you do the wrong things you can penalise your own website, but certain people with highly questionable ethics have taken that to the next level and are using that to attack websites. We’ve seen it several times and it’s quite appalling that someone would go to that length to damage a well-run business.
What does that have to do with Google+? Everything. Getting people sharing your websites on social media is a great way to counteract any bad stuff going on behind the scenes. And if nothing else, it can generate quite a bit of business for you, even if you’re not ranking organically.
