Is there such a thing as too many crossovers (in the eyes of buyers, anyway)? Sure doesn’t look like it. Buyers continue to clamor for practicality and relative affordability, hoping to avoid buying a minivan. Inevitably the crossover pie gets sliced thinner and thinner with new segment sizes coming seemingly every day.
Among the fastest-growing segments is sort of a tweener class, not too big, not too small, with the likes of the Honda HR-V, Nissan Juke, and Fiat 500X. Mazda jumped into the fray two years ago with its roomy and stylish CX-3. It’s been going gangbusters ever since, with around 20,000 sold so far this year, 5 times (!) more than Mazda sold the first year.
