Benthic Biomonitoring involves collecting Benthic Macroinvertebrates from streams, rivers and lakes to help us determine the health of the water. Sensitive species such as a Stonefly or a Caddisfly cant live within water that is polluted or contaminated, whereas Tolerant species are able to withstand this pollution and are often found in heavily disturbed sites. As seen here, Nogies Creek contains a healthy amount of sensitive species, indicating that the creek is in healthy condition!
