Hey, Jason from xFanatical here. In this short video, I’m going to demonstrate to you a SafeDoc feature that removes the chat feature in Google Docs.
Students may use the chat features as an alternative to Hangouts which you may turned off. This feature may distract students from studying and provide a way to cheat.
So, lets see how it works.
The left window is a student’s Chrome browser without Safe Doc installed and the right window is another student’s browser with Safe Doc installed.
As you you can see in the left window when multiple users are working on the same file at the same time, there is a small chat icon next to the user list. Clicking that icon will pops up a chat side panel.
While in the right window Safe Doc chrome extension disables this feature. The Chat icon along with the chat window are no longer accessible in these editors, when multiple users join.
Note those who don't have Safe Doc installed won't be impacted, such as teachers or staffs.
This applies to Google Docs, Sheets, Slides and Drawings.
The blocking the inserting image by URL feature is controlled by block in file chat policy.
