How to add Table of Contents in Word for the Web | New Feature
Adding a table of contents is now possible in Microsoft Word for the Web. This new Word feature is particularly useful if you have a Chromebook or are using the free Word for the web if you cannot install the desktop version. Adding a TOC is fast, but you need to prepare your document in a specific way.
In this video I show you how to add a table of contents in an example Word document, how to update the table of contents when you make changes and also how to format your document so that the table of contents works every time.

A formatting tip for a working table of contents is to format your document using heading styles. This ensures that your headings look visually distinct and they also help Word determine the hierarchy of your document. With H1 to H9, you have plenty of options for specifying which sections of your Word document are more or less important and the Table of Contents will format and indent them appropriately.
