The goal of a denial-of-service (DoS) attack is to render a machine or network resource unavailable to its intended users by temporarily or permanently interrupting the services of a host connected to a network. In order to overwhelm systems and prevent some or all valid requests from being fulfilled, denial of service is frequently achieved by sending an excessive number of requests to the resource or machine that is being attacked.

The incoming traffic that floods the victim during a DDoS attack comes from a variety of sources. To prevent this kind of attack, more advanced tactics are needed.

DoS or DDoS attacks are comparable to a mass of individuals blocking a store's entrance, making it difficult for actual customers to enter and disrupting business.
