Back in 2010, Europe chose the 2016 Capital of Culture.
Typically, two cities from different countries are chosen. The competition was fierce; Wroclaw competed with Warsaw, Gdansk, and Lublin among the Polish cities. On the Spanish side, San Sebastian was chosen, beating out Seville.

Why did Wroclaw need this title? It's very simple: having seen Liverpool's success, Wroclaw was trying to grasp at the opportunity to help promote our wonderful city. After all, Liverpool, having donated a pound for the event, returned eight pounds. And the city became internationally recognized.

So, six years of infrastructure development, motivating local residents to actively participate in events and their preparations, and a huge amount of attracted investment – all this transformed Wroclaw beyond recognition. ⠀
By the beginning of 2016, a completely different Wroclaw appeared before Europe: restored, renovated, cleaned, sparkling, and inviting, with dozens of state-of-the-art infrastructure facilities.

2,000 cultural events attended by 5.2 million people. Concerts by Ennio Morricone, David Gilmour, and Rammstein. A literary weekend dedicated to the opening of the UNESCO World Book Capital.

Over 100,000 publications, broadcasts, and television programs about Wroclaw appeared in the media. Stories about the European Capital of Culture were shown 100 times abroad – in all corners of the world, from Japan and South Korea, through Kazakhstan and Ukraine to Spain.
And the icing on the cake was the mega show "Flow," which was seen by 140,000 people. This event was organized by Chris Baldwin.
Personally, I firmly believe that it was this event that changed the city's destiny, and thanks to it, I now live in a super-dynamically developing city.
