Sesame Street - Episode 265 (1971)
Who's up for some ice cream, kids?! It's more than 50 years old, but I'll bet it still tastes sweet :-) First aired in Season 2 (May 14, 1971), it's Episode 0265 of the best darn kids show ever! The main street story involves Moe (Jerry Nelson) from the Super Duper Ultra Modern Stainless Steel Fancy Schmancy Ice Cream Company and the ice cream machine that's been installed right by Hooper's Store. After a pretty good start that has Mr. Hooper (Will Lee) worried about losing business, Oscar and Big Bird (both Caroll Spinney) get their favourite flavours from his store (sardine and bird seed), so Moe stocks the machine with nothing but those two, thinking they'd be big sellers. Mr. Hooper has every flavour of ice cream ever produced (or so it seems), so Moe is out of a job.
There are two other street scenes to note. At 37:00, in his apartment, Gordon (Matt Robinson) shows Bob (Bob McGrath) a film about where frogs come from (and shows 'em snacking on worms, ewww!) as a practice run for his class (he's a science teacher). Not sure I recall another kids show so matter-of-factly stating where babies come from ("Just like a child, it begins in an egg."), betcha that was a confusing day for some kids!
The @Muppet Wiki entry for Susan's (Loretta Long) solo scene (45:06) says, "Susan instructs the kids on how to undress a little girl." Yikes. Let me clarify that before someone calls child services, lol! She has a cut-out figure of a fully-dressed girl on a board and asks the kids what the girl (named Kim, which seems a little odd seeing as the only girl in the group of three kids is also named Kim) would need to do before she could remove her socks, for example. They continue down to the girl's slip when she changes her mind and gets dressed again. Love how the kids are just casually leaning on and reaching over the GAS STOVETOP(!) for the lesson.
