Trillium Rose Shows How to Hit a Chip, Pitch and Flop Shot with One Wedge | Golf Tips | Titleist
One wedge, three completely different short game shots. That's the definition of versatility.
Around the green, most golfers reach for different clubs when the situation changes. But knowing how to adjust your technique with the same wedge gives you more options and a lot more control over what the ball does when it lands.
Titleist staff member Trillium Rose walks through three short game scenarios using her 58 degree Vokey wedge - each one requiring a different setup and swing to get the right result.
First shot: flag is at the back of the green with a hill to carry. Ball in the middle, weight forward, shaft leaning slightly forward, no wrist hinge. Let the torso do the work and the ball carries the hill and stops.
Second shot: same flag, farther away. More distance needed, so the wrist hinge comes in. Hinge on the way back, unhinge through impact - that's where the extra speed comes from. Same club, different motion, different trajectory, different result.
Third shot: flag just a few yards on, bunker to carry, almost no landing zone. This is the flop. Face wide open, dramatic wrist hinge, lots of speed through the ball. High risk, high reward. Trillium's honest about it too - if you don't need this shot, don't hit it. The safer play is a controlled swing to the middle of the green.
