Today I’ll show you how to disable the High Precision Event Timer (HPET). This setting doesn’t increase CPU speed directly, but it can reduce system lag and make your laptop feel more responsive.
HPET is a hardware timer used by Windows for precise event scheduling.
Modern CPUs already have faster timers, so HPET can sometimes add unnecessary latency.
HPET purpose - emphasize it’s about timing, not raw speed.
step by step
1. Open Device Manager.
2. Expand System devices.
3. Right‑click High precision event timer and select Disable device.
Conclusion
• This is a tuning tweak, not a guaranteed upgrade.
• If you notice problems, you can always re‑enable HPET.
• The key is to test it yourself and decide what works best for your system.
