In this short video, we capture a moment at the Whitney Plantation where a woman visiting the Antioch First Baptist Church discovered the statue of a child featured on her lanyard. This statue is part of a series at Whitney Plantation representing formerly enslaved individuals who were interviewed about their experiences during slavery. Although these individuals were interviewed in the 1930s, the statues depict them as children, reflecting their memories from that time. These statues serve as a reminder of the resilience and strength of those who endured unimaginable hardships.
