The BA-11 is a Soviet heavy armored car developed in 1937–1938 by engineers at Moscow Automobile Plant No. 1 (better known as ZIL) based on the ZIS-6 military truck. The truck's chassis was shortened, the engine was uprated, and a rear steering wheel was added: the resulting chassis was designated ZIS-43. Thanks to the efforts of engineers at the Izhora Plant, the BA-11's armor was double that of the BA-10. Tracks were also installed to improve the vehicle's cross-country ability. Serial production of the BA-11 was scheduled to begin in 1941: by that time, the identified deficiencies were expected to be addressed, but the outbreak of the Great Patriotic War put an end to the BA-11. Only 17 BA-11s were built, and the Red Army saw limited use during the initial stages of the war.
