Tiny Kisses

So this animation has a bit of a strange origin. I was watching a TV show where a couple kissed, and I really liked the pose that the girl did. So I decided to recreate that pose in Blender for practice/fun. I did it with Shulk and Fiora, but it didn’t work quite as well as I wanted because Fiora was a bit too tall. I think you can see where I’m going with this.
Anyways, this animation is significantly less ambitious or exciting than most of my recent projects, as there’s nothing particularly special or interesting going on here. In fact, I got super bored making these poses near the end. It’s not that they’re bad poses, but because of the gentler and slower tone of this animation, there wasn’t as much room for fun flashy action.
My favorite part is the beginning, where Fiora is sleeping on Shulk’s shoulder. I think it’s just a really cute picture of them. It’s also the best looking of the kisses that they do. The rest all have issues, partially due to the size changes, but because the change was less on the first one than it was for the successive ones, it looks better.
The kissing started to look worse and worse as Fiora shrank. I tried to hide it with camerawork as best as I could, but there are still some shots where you can see how bad it looks anyways. Near the end it’s barely even recognizable as a kiss, but it’s mostly fine. I did try to make a point of always showing that Fiora was leaning in for the kisses to show that she wanted to, as otherwise it could get a bit icky. It was a bit harder when she was tiny, as more of the motion ends up being done by Shulk the smaller Fiora gets, but I think I still managed it okay.
I’m a bit surprised by how long this animation ended up being. I imagine it’s composed of significantly fewer poses than my normal animations are, yet it still ended up being over a minute long. I guess it’s because of how slowly everything moves, but still, I’m surprised.
