Learn the quickest and easiest way to format a USB or external drive using Command Prompt (CMD) in Windows — no DiskPart required!
This method works for USB flash drives, memory cards, and external hard drives. All you need is the drive letter and one simple command.
✅ In this tutorial, you’ll learn how to:
• Identify the drive letter in File Explorer
• Open Command Prompt as administrator
• Use the format command with NTFS, exFAT, or FAT32
• Complete a quick format safely and easily
⚠️ Note: Formatting erases all data on the drive. Be sure to back up your files first.
📌 Command used:
format D: /fs:ntfs /q
Replace D: with your actual drive letter. You can also use exfat or fat32 instead of ntfs.
