Layout 2025 - Automated Block System (from basics to wireless setup)
In this episode of the layout 2025 series, we will automate the block system using the wireless controls we deployed in the last video. Making this or any block system work involves quite a few mechanisms, and explaining these and their interactions can quickly lead to confusion. Judging by the variety of the requests sent by viewers on the topic, there is a lot of ground to cover, so, we are going to take our time and proceed step by step, using a traditional wired setup:
We’ll start with the mechanics of a basic block system.
We’ll look at Märklin’s implementation of automation with control tracks
Cover the weaknesses of the Märklin block system and how to work around them.
We’ll then have an in depth look at the configuration of a station with alterning tracks.
At that point we should have gained an understanding of all the logic elements required to automate the layout.
We’ll then move to the installation and configuration of my wireless solution..
By the end of the video, we should be able to run 5 trains, automatically following each other around the layout.
