⌚️Smart watches tracking sleep are NOT accurate. BUT that doesn't mean they're not useful.

Sleep tracking is not accurate on smart phones because they only track MOTION and pulse. Motion is not a great measure because things like watching tv in bed without motion could be inaccurately counted as sleep.

The metrics that a smart watch and other devices that could be worn DO have a role in the sleep industry. Because the gold standard is polysomnography (PSG) with many direct and simultaneous metrics, it cannot be a direct comparison. The future may be able to compute the other metrics measured by smart watches in ways that are more accurately diagnose sleep disturbances.
