Brian Josephson's discovery of how to regulate electrical currents in complex machines played a key role in the development of electronics and quantum computing. This achievement later earned him a Nobel Prize. He is also interested in the relationship between mind and matter and is one of the few scientists who argue that parapsychological phenomena (telepathy, psychokinesis, and other paranormal themes) may be real. This also led to the study of superconductivity and the Josephson effect in nature, particularly in the human body, where features resembling Josephson junctions were later discovered.

Concepts used in the episode:
"Quantum tunneling" is a phenomenon in quantum mechanics in which particles such as electrons can pass through energy barriers or obstacles that classical physics predicts they cannot overcome. This occurs because the particles also exhibit wave properties and can be detected on the other side of the barrier, even if they do not have enough classical energy to overcome it. This is a fundamental concept for understanding particle behavior at the quantum level and is important in a variety of applications, including semiconductors and nuclear fusion.

The "proximity effect" is a phenomenon in physics, particularly in the study of superconductivity and magnetism. It occurs when two materials, one of which is superconducting or magnetic, are in close physical proximity.

A "superconducting plasma" is a state of matter in which particles, typically electrons, in the plasma have formed pairs that can move through the plasma without any resistance. In this state, the plasma has zero electrical resistance, allowing electric current to flow indefinitely without energy loss.

"Lasers and masers" both use stimulated emission to produce coherent electromagnetic radiation, but they differ in the specific wavelength of the radiation they produce: lasers emit visible or near-infrared light, while masers emit microwaves.

"Squeezed light" - While classical light follows classical physics and has well-defined properties, squeezed light is a quantum phenomenon with reduced uncertainty in certain properties, making it valuable in quantum technologies and precision measurements.
