More Mistakes You're Making With Your Comedy | How To Write Funny
Are you making these mistakes with your comedy?
1. You fall in love with jokes that don’t align with you, your comedy persona, your voice, or your take. They’re so precious to you that you don’t realize you have to kill those darlings and come up with better jokes, jokes that are funnier and make sense coming from you.
2. You don’t come up with enough jokes or comedy ideas. You don’t write every day. You don’t throw everything against the wall to see what will stick. You just re-tweak the same five anemic ideas.
3. You’re afraid to put yourself out there. You’re afraid your writing isn’t good enough to publish. You’re afraid to go on stage and try to be funny. You give into fear instead of embracing courage. You know it’s the only way you’re going to get better, but you don’t do it.
4. You use other people’s success as an excuse to not try harder. You figure you’ll never be as good as them, so why bother? You forget that everybody’s path is different. You forget that the best policy is to be HAPPY for others when they succeed, send them a congratulatory note, and then sit down and write some more jokes.
