If he fails to fill up, you can use Harper to give half of mana to your allies. Don't bother if you lose your tank, he is not a Wargare so he is just a meatshield anyway and brings nothing to table really, except that you can use him to connect 4 match extra turn by using the "destroy row" spell option.
If your Todd gets inflicted with Lycanthropy at the start of the fight, consider restarting. It's annoying if he gets transformed to some unuseful beast when half of the enemies are dead.
