API Gateway Integrations – Proxy vs. Non-Proxy Deep Dive
Analogy for Understanding: Imagine you are ordering a pizza.
• Proxy Integration is like a Delivery Driver. They pick up the box exactly as the chef made it and drop it at your door. If the order is wrong or needs extra napkins, that was the kitchen's (backend's) job to handle before it was handed over.
• Non-Proxy Integration is like a Private Chef/Butler. You give them a list of ingredients (raw request). They go into the kitchen, prepare the meal specifically for your plate (mapping), and if the kitchen provides a messy pot of soup, the butler pours it into a nice bowl and garnishes it (response transformation) before presenting it to you.
