[Exploration] Understanding Zombies: Anthropology and the Undead
The figure of the zombie has become a dominant image and talking point in our pop culture, ranging from popular films, to video games and graphic novels. This talk explores the ways in which an anthropological, social science lens can shed light on the prevalence and popularity of zombie narratives. Particular emphasis is placed on how zombies help us think through broader issues and problems related to changing notions of consumerism, Otherness, and death, among other things.

About the speaker:
Dr. Karen McGarry is the Associate Dean of Social Sciences and an Associate Professor in Anthropology at McMaster University. She teaches introductory Anthropology and a variety of courses on popular culture and society.
