Maybe you remember the days when you could send messages in your LAN using "net send". Unfortunately, Microsoft discontinued this option in newer versions of Windows. The software "IP Messenger" does just that: It let's you send (encrypted) short messages and even files without using any outside servers.
This isn't a paid ad by any means but I feel confident to recommend this software for sending text between Windows, MacOS, Android and iPhone.
