Learn how to create a custom thumbnail in Scratch for your projects!
To create a custom thumbnail, follow these steps:
Select the paint option for a new sprite in the bottom corner of the screen.
Use the rectangle tool to draw a large rectangle around the box in the middle of the costume.
Add in sprites that you want on your thumbnail using one of the costume options on the bottom corner of the screen.
Click the select tool in the new costume, then click copy.
Go back to your custom thumbnail costume and press paste. Resize and move your sprite on your thumbnail as needed.
Add a title, then change the font size and angle to make it fit the box in the center.
If your thumbnail looks great in the costumes tab but doesn't cover up all of the screen, you can fix that in your code. Add a "go to XY" block and set both X and Y to zero, which is in the center of the screen. Next, add a "go to front layer" block and then a "show" block. Double-click the code, and your new thumbnail should perfectly cover up everything in your project.
Attach a "hide" block to a "when green flag clicked" event block to make your thumbnail disappear when someone starts your project. Every time you change the code in your project, you'll need to save your thumbnail. To do this, double-click the code to make your thumbnail cover up something in your project, then drag the box right on to make the "save now" button appear at the top of the screen, and click that button to save your thumbnail.
Even though it's now saved, it might take a few minutes or even a couple of hours for the server to update your thumbnail on your project page.
