If you want to record drums at home, you'll need an audio interface that ticks a lot of boxes. It'll need modern connectivity features, and plenty of XLR inputs and preamps to accommodate the number of microphones as you'll be using for the session.
In this video, I test four popular audio interfaces (all solid options at different price points) and I'll explore all their features as well as discuss their pros and cons from first hand experience.
In this comparison, I start with the most affordable - the Behringer UMC1820, and I make my way through to the most expensive option which is the Audient ID48. I think each of these interfaces has a great set of features for the price, and hopefully this video will help you figure out which option might work best for you.
For the shootout, I used my Mapex Armory kit with Zultan Alaris cymbals. Everything was recorded straight into Logic using the AKG Session 1 drum mic kit.
I've included raw as well as lightly processed mixes so you can hear a fair, side-by-side comparison of how these interfaces perform sonically
