19 October Giga Texas Update! This is where the Cyber Truck and Model Y will be built!
Just after this video uploaded, I learned from an on-site source that the permanent structure that was installed on 17 October and discussed at length in this video is the first permanent part of the Giga Texas paint shop! Did not get to add this to the video before it uploaded, but great news!
It started off as a gloomy foggy day and then the sun broke out and it was like a new day … great for getting detailed drone footage!
In this video, we discuss the new structure at Giga Texas and some theories that this is a temporary structure by providing some analysis and comparisons with Giga Berlin. In the end, I believe that this structure is a permanent part of the factory and by the end of the week will be joined by a large structure constructed in a similar fashion … we shall see!
A good-sized crew are back at work building 30+ footers in the north of the big foundation and near the new structure. They already had pre-constructed the rebar footers and had several pits excavated in the past 48 hours. Today, they are installing the rebar into the pits and preparing for concrete application which could happen as soon as this afternoon. These are very similar in size and construction to the nearly 25 footers installed in the south near the big pit.
Speaking of the big pit, a large amount of rebar was being delivered this morning and crews in the pit were already starting to install them in the large casting or stamping machine foundation area. The newly excavated parts of the big pit are now getting GeoPier reinforcements showing that more area for heavy machinery was in fact added and that significant 30 to 40-foot-deep support columns are needed before concrete construction can begin in these areas.
GeoPier work on the west (smaller “half” of the foundation continues as does the work on the central “roadway” between the two major foundation halves. A new earthmoving effort has begun just north of the two foundations, but at present it is not clear the purpose of this area. We should see soon.
The east switchyard area (east of the central power transmission lines and towers) is mostly flat now, but at this point of the day, not a lot of work was going on.
Up at the north, the batch plant is nearing operational status and they were installing power to control boxes this morning along with two large tanker trucks nearby … I am not sure what their purpose was at the time of making this video. Will try to find out more in the future.
It's exciting to think that it has not yet been 90 days since they officially announced Giga Texas and a part of the structure is already installed with more very close behind!
