2002 Forester AT Gear Shifter Light Fix
How to change or replace the gear shifter light bulb for a 2002 Subaru Forester. This fix should apply to most 1998-2002 Subaru Foresters with automatic transmissions. Please use your parking brake and common sense when shifting out of park.

Tools needed:
Small flathead screw screwdriver
Small phillips screwdriver
Est. Time:
15 Minutes
1. Set the parking brake on
2. Remove 2 screws on parking brake cover
3. Remove parking brake cover
4. Turn key to accessory mode
5. Put car in neutral (do you have your parking brake on lol?)
6. Remove gear shifter cover
7. Put car in park again
8. Use flathead screwdriver to open the four tabs on the gear shifter selector
9. Move the gear shifter panel until you can see the bulb
10. Reach under the left side and twist the bulb clockwise and down
11. Pull the bulb out, it should be pretty snug
12. Replace the bulb the same way
13. Check the bulb by turning the key to accessory again
14. Return the bulb and harness with a counter clockwise twist
15. Snap the gear shifter panel in place
16. Pop the gear shifter cover back in place
17. Return the parking brake cover
18. Tighten down the screws for the parking brake cover
