How to Create a Virtual Machine
Welcome to Dev Odyssey Computing! In this video, I make the case why using a virtual machine as your daily computer is better than using your host / hardware computer itself. In addition, I cover the benefits of virtual machines, uses, drawback, requirements, and creating your own virtual machines using a free software called VirtualBox.

A Virtual Machine is a virtual computer; a computer run via software, like Google Chrome and Microsoft Word are both software. It's effectively a computer within a computer.
The Benefits of Virtual Machines are as follows:
1. Backups / Snapshots
2. Security / Privacy
3. Improved Networking
4. Portability
Good Uses of Virtual Machines
Non intensive activities such as:
1. Web based activities
2. Watching Videos
3. Editing Documents
Bad Uses of Virtual Machines
Intensive activities such as:
1. Graphics Editing
2. High Def Video Games
Drawbacks of Virtual Machines:
1. Performance (of the Virtual Machine)
Virtualization Requirements:
1. Enabled Settings in CPU / BIOS (this depends on who makes your chip and computer, but it might already be enabled by default)
Steps to Create a Virtual Machine in VirtualBox
Click New
Give VM Name
VM File Location (Default)
Type: Microsoft Windows
Version: Windows 10 64 bit
Continue
RAM: 8 GB (8192 MB) if possible, if not, then 4 GB (4096 MB)
-Create Virtual Hard disk: This depends on user requirements, but go with default is a good start
Go with VirtualBox Disk Image (Only use with Virtual Box)
Dynamic allocation (better for disk usage on host machine)
Choose Size and Create
Select VM then click settings
Storage - Storage Devices - Empty (Click) - Optical Drive (click CD image all the way to the right) - Choose disk file (find Windows ISO and Select) - Click Ok
Click Network (explain network settings, leave on NAT) (Can isolate from network , give internet access, etc)
Then Start Virtual Machine, and go through install process
Installing VirtualBox Tools on Guest VM:
Once install is done - Devices - Insert Guest Additions CD image
Open CD image in C Drive (File Explorer), and complete install process - reboot
Make sure View - Auto-resize Guest Display is checked - enables
