Amish man killed in logging accident

CLEARFIELD TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- A Cambria County Amish man was killed Friday morning after a tree fell on top of him.
First responders were called to the scene located on state game lands in a remote wooded area in Clearfield Township near the Cambria Heights High School.
The Cambria County coroner said Benuel Swarey was out cutting down trees with his father and another man, when a tree fell and landed on top of him.
State police said Swarey worked for his father's logging company and authorities are calling his death an unfortunate accident.
"This morning we had some Amish people doing some logging on state game lands and in the process of cutting one tree down a limb fell off of another tree and in the process striking our victim," Kwiatkowski said.
Coroner Dennis Kwiatkowski said this type of accident can happen at any time.
"You know just an unfortunate accident happened and logging this happens from time to time," Kwiatkowski said.
Kwiatkowski said the small crew knew what they were doing, "These guys are pretty experienced, they know what they were doing, it was just one of those things were a tree came down and caught another limb that was dead and in the process it flung the tree a little bit further the other way and caught our victim."
The coroner said there will not be an autopsy performed.
The state police are handling the investigation.
