This Excel tutorial video shows you how to copy an Excel chart into a PowerPoint presentation as a picture. This is one of the most common tasks for users.

Copying an Excel chart as a picture into PowerPoint has several benefits:

• It means you don’t have to include the original chart/data associated with it, which is great for confidentiality reasons. Since it’s a picture, there is no connection at all to the spreadsheet.

• Its very easy to do- only a few clicks

• The chart picture can be saved as a standalone picture for use in future work, or forwarding to others.

• The chart picture can be resized, cropped, annotated over, just like any other picture- which is often more flexible than editing a chart object.

• It doesn’t add much overhead in terms of file size to your PowerPoint presentation.

• You can also add ‘alt text’ (alternative text) to make the chart picture more accessible for those using screen readers.

Of course there are some caveats mainly:

• Since the chart/data connection is severed when pasting an Excel chart as a picture, you need to make sure your chart is finalised in Excel prior to copying it over. Else you will have to delete and replace the copied picture if any further changes are made to the original Excel chart- it will not update automatically.

• Some reports might actually need to be linked to the original Excel data, for further reference. Again this would depend upon your actual PowerPoint presentation and its purpose.

Please ensure you watch this Excel tutorial in the highest quality video setting that your device supports.

We recommend HD or higher (the tutorial has been recorded in 4K).
