I'm a mechanical engineer. I quit my job at a robotics startup in December to work on this full-time.
Mark III isn't what's on Kickstarter. After building it, I spent another three months refining the internals, testing multiple aluminum stock and anodization suppliers until the combination felt and looked exactly right, rebuilding the manufacturing flow, and tuning the sound of the click. Assembled in Vancouver, Canada. I didn't want to outsource because I want to have full oversight on quality control, though it would have been much cheaper. The Kickstarter version shares the same form factor as Mark III, but almost every detail underneath has been improved, especially the finish, its simply gorgeous.
The springless keyboard at the end of the video is the MagButton Switch. More on that soon!
