How To Install Kali Linux GUI In WSL 2 On Windows 10
1- First thing first ensure that you have Windows 10 version 2004 and OS Build must be 19041 or higher installed on your Windows 10 System. You can check the Windows version and build number by typing winver in the start search menu.
2- Enable-WindowsOptionalFeature -Online -FeatureName Microsoft-Windows-Subsystem-Linux
Restart
3- Enable “Virtual Machine Platform” optional feature. Again you can do so by opening Powershell as administrator and type the following command on powershell terminal
dism.exe /online /enable-feature /featurename:VirtualMachinePlatform /all /norestart
4- Enable “Windows Subsystem for Linux” or often abbreviated as WSL optional feature.This feature can be enabled by running Powershell as administrator.
dism.exe /online /enable-feature /featurename:Microsoft-Windows-Subsystem-Linux /all /norestart
Restart
5- After enabling these two features you have to now restart your PC.
6- Once restarted, download the latest WSL2 Linux kernel update package from
https://aka.ms/wsl2kernel or https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/wind...
7- open Powershell as administrator and type the command,
wsl --set-default-version 2
8- Verify the Version
wsl –list –verbose
9- Now download Kali Linux from the Microsoft Store. Once downloaded open it and wait for the program to decompress and store the necessary files on your system.
10- You can now set a username and password for the newly created Linux distribution on your PC
11- sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade -y
12- sudo apt install kali-win-kex
Restart
13- Make sure you exclude Kali Linux Packages Folder from %ProgramData% from Windows Defender Antivirus Scanning
14- kex kill && kex stop && kex
PS: kex kill and kex stop used for troubeshooting Kali Linux GUI
15- To start Win-KeX in Window mode with sound support, run
win-kex --win -s
16- To close Win-KeX SL, simply log out of the session via the “Logout” button in the panel.
Note: To optionally shutdown the Win-KeX SL server, type
kex --sl --stop
Note: Moreover you once you are in Kali Linux Mode you can press F8 to switch back to Windows 10 !!!
