Indian Constitution | Political Parties | Day 50/51 🇮🇳

Political parties play a pivotal role in our democracy, and the constitutional provisions governing them ensure transparency, accountability, and ethical conduct.

📜 Article 19(1)(a) guarantees the freedom of speech and expression, extending this right to the formation and functioning of political parties, emphasizing the importance of diverse voices in our democracy.

🗳️ To operate officially, political parties must be registered and recognized by the Election Commission of India, ensuring they adhere to democratic norms and principles.

🤝 The Representation of People Act, 1951, governs the conduct of elections, setting out qualifications and disqualifications for members of political parties.

🚫 During elections, political parties are expected to follow a code of conduct outlined by the Election Commission. Additionally, the Anti-Defection Law, enshrined in the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution, aims to curb unethical practices that could compromise the stability of governments.

🏛️ These constitutional provisions collectively contribute to fostering a political environment that is transparent, accountable, and ethical, reflecting the foundational principles of our democracy.
