The program is much more than a Facebook proxy but it function well in demo mode to access the social media site through content filters, firewalls and other blocks.
The software will allow people to access Facebook in many circumstances were it's normally blocked. For instance in countries which decide you can't access the social media site like Iran and China, simple online HTTP proxies won't work.
The method demonstrated avoids detection on two distinct levels. The first is that you never directly visit Facebook, all requests are routed through the proxy server. This means that all the name and IP blocks are bypassed because your client never requests access to those addresses.
The second level is enabling encryption which will bypass more sophisticated blocking technology like content filtering. Content filters look inside the packet itself looking at the requests and addresses, then blocking when it finds a match. If the packet is encrypted the content filter cannot decipher it and thus has no idea about the destination address.
You're unlikely to see content filters except in corporate and some education levels, they are rarely implemented on a national level simply due to the speed implications of examining every packet.
