Working with concrete and mortar mixes can be a messy job and there is bound to be some concrete spilling or dropping somewhere you don't want it to be. So how do you clean it up? There are a couple things that you do and don't want to do which you will find in this video.

You would think that cleaning up some spilled concrete with water would be the right thing to do. It is still wet concrete mix after all. But water is the component that makes the cement bond to whatever it is in contact with. Pouring water may wash away what looks like some gray water, which is the cement. But everything that cement water touches, especially a porous surface, will absorb that water, and when it dries, it will leave a white haze that is very difficult to get rid of. It is not at the surface layer any more, it has permeated through beyond the surface layer.

Most commonly, the best way to remove wet concrete or mortar mix that has been spilled is with a dry brush, a dry broom, or a dry sponge. Use one of these to consolidate the mess and remove it from the surface. Sometimes, the best way to clean up a spill is to let it dry and break it free the next day. It would be likely that the two surfaces did not bond and will break apart quite easily.

A wet sponge can be used for cleaning up a concrete spill, but you have to rinse and repeat multiple times to ensure that all of the cement has been removed from the surface to avoid staining. Even still, it may be near to impossible to remove all of the cement component from a porous surface or substance.
