Computer Aided Dispatch Transition - E911
A new, state-of-the-art Computer Aided Dispatch system is up and running in Chatham County!
What is Computer Aided Dispatch, or CAD?
CAD is a system that acts as a hub for information coming into the E911 call center in an emergency. Using the newly implemented upgraded system, call takers will ask more detailed questions, which will take longer than usual. But that will help route first responders where they are needed more efficiently.
“When they get enough information to actually get responders on the way, they can transmit that and continue asking the callers questions,” said Chatham County E911 Center Director Diane Pinckney. “They will actually be able to give instructions to callers, such as CPR, stopping the bleed. They will be able to give those concise instructions to callers to help possibly save a life.”
