In this short video, we explore the history of the deportation of the Circassians from their homelands in the 1860s. At that time, more than 500 Circassian villages were destroyed by the Russian Empire, and the surviving highlanders were deported to the Ottoman Empire.

Ultimately, 90 (!!!) percent of the entire Circassian people were killed during the deportation.

All of this was intended to "exterminate half the highlanders so that the other half would be afraid."

This tragedy of millions of people receives unfairly little attention. Russia does not recognize the genocide. Circassians who fight for the memory of their ancestors find themselves outside the law, and the descendants of the deportees cannot return to their homelands.

Who are the Circassians? How did the war between the Circassians and the Empire begin? Why did the deportation begin? How did it happen? And how are the Circassians living today? You can find out the answers to all these questions in just four minutes!
